Steps

The oxygen sensor is a piece that is placed in the exhaust system, before and after the catalytic converter. The second is to measure that the catalyst is working correctly.

Its function is to measure the amount of fuel and oxygen that leaves the engine of the car so that the computer regulates the injection of fuel and air into the combustion chamber.

Steps 1 - DISASSEMBLY PROCEDURE



First, you need to disconnect the negative battery cable.

Note:

- Do not remove the spiral coil from the hot oxygen sensor (HO2S) or oxygen sensor (O2S). Removing the flexible connection cable or the connector will affect the operation of the sensor.




Handle the oxygen sensor carefully. Do not throw away the HO2S. Keep in line connector and end with blinds without grease, dirt or other contaminants. Do not use cleaning solvents of any kind.

Do not repair the wiring, connector or terminals. Replace the oxygen sensor if the wiring of the flexible connection cable or terminal is damaged.

This external reference of clean air is obtained by means of the oxygen sensor signal and the heater cables. Any attempt to repair the cables, connectors or terminals could result in obstruction of the air reference and degradation of the sensor performance.

The following guidelines should be followed when maintaining the heated oxygen sensor:

  • Do not apply contact cleaners or other materials to the sensor or harness connectors of the vehicle. These materials could penetrate the sensor causing inefficient performance.
  • Do not damage the flexible cable of the sensor connection or the harness cables in such a way that the internal cables are exposed. This could provide a means for foreign materials to enter the sensor and cause performance problems.
  • Make sure that the peripheral seal remains intact in the harness connector of the vehicle to prevent damage due to water ingress. The engine harness can be repaired using a Packard folding repair kit and the terminal of the splice seals. Under no circumstances should repairs be welded as this could cause the air reference to be obstructed.

  • Note:

    - Do not weld on the hot oxygen sensor wires. When welding the cables, the reference air will be lost to the sensor. To obtain the correct connection and cable repair techniques, see Motor Electronics.


    Note:

    - Remove oxygen sensors with engine temperature above 48 ° C (120 ° F). Otherwise, the removal of the oxygen sensors will be difficult.


    Finally, carefully remove the HO2S 1 from the exhaust manifold.

    Steps 2 - INSTALLATION



    Important: A special anti-ligation component is used on the threads of the oxygen sensor. This compound contains liquid graphite and layers of glass. The graphite will burn, but the fiberglass will remain, making it easier to remove the sensor. The new sensors or service sensors already have the compound applied to the threads. If you remove a sensor from any motor and if for any reason it must be reinstalled, an anti-clogging compound must be applied to the threads before reinstalling it.

    The steps to install the oxygen sensor are very simple, they will be listed below.

  • Cover the threads of HO2S 1 with an anti-seize compound, if necessary.
  • Install HO2S 1 in the exhaust manifold. Tighten the oxygen sensor to 42 N · m (31 lb-ft).
  • Connect the HO2S connector 1.
  • Connect the negative battery cable.

  • And finally, you will have achieved the repair effectively!
